Abstract

Steel possesses good corrosion resistance characteristic but its dependance towards its passive layer makes stainless steel easily form a pitting corrosion. This study will analyze the effect of temperature towards the corrosion resistance in pitting steel stainless steel steel 304L. the pitting surface area are characteristic that will be observed. The variable for temperature study are 10 ℃, 15℃, 20℃, 30℃, and 35℃. Method used in this study is immersion method based on ASTM G48 Method E- Critical Pitting Temperature (CPT) using Cl- acid solution with 2,39 M concentration. Then, macroscopic visual observation is conducted, as well as SEM observation. According to CPT calculation, stainless steel 304L has a CPT of 7℃. The result is that temperature increased corrotion area 0 cm2 on 10℃ and 15℃. At temperature 20℃, the result was 0,0174 cm2, then 0,282 in temperature 30℃, and 0,378 cm2 in temperature 35℃. The absence of pit at temperature 10℃ and 15℃ show that the pit started to form at range 15℃ to 20℃. The higher CPT result compared to calucated CPT show that this material is feasible
