Abstract

This Final Project research has been carried out to design a carbon monoxide (CO) gas sensor based on an interdigital electrode (IDE) and PVA/TiO2 nanofibers, to find out the IDE sensor response to CO without PVA/TiO2, and find the sensitivity of the sensor to CO when using PVA/TiO2. The main principle used is chemiresistance : if there is an interaction between CO and PVA/TiO2, the gas will decrease resistance in the sensor. Preparation of PVA/TiO2 nanofibers are done through the method of electrospinning. This study used variations in the concentration of TiO2, namely 0,1% w/v; 0,2% w/v; 0,3% w/v; 0,4% w/v; and 0,5% w/v. The IDE sensors showed chemiresistance, because with increasing CO levels the resistance decreases. IDE sensors without PVA/TiO2 nanofibers cannot respond to CO. The sensitivity of the sensor variations using CO levels of 130 ppm are : Sample A was 5,08; Sample B was 3,12; Sample C was 3.75; Sample D was 3,24; and Sample E was 3,53.
