Abstract

========================
The "Orela" crew boat is a crew boat owned by PT. Orela Shipyard in Gresik, Indonesia. To optimize the efficiency of the use of fuel, the ship is planned to be installed a foil behind the transom of the ship called the hull vane. Hull vane is a lifting surface that can produce lift in the position where the hull vane is installed. There are 2 types of hull vane that will be installed on this ship, namely hull vane with a straight-shaped span, and V-shaped span in accordance with the stern shape of the ship. This study aims to determine how the influence of the use of hull vane on the total resistance produced by the ship. To determine the ship resistance produced, the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) numerical calculation method is used, and 3D modeling of the ship using data from the Lines plan of the ship and adjusted to the hydrostatic data. To validate the simulation results, an empirical calculation of ship resistance using the Savitsky method is used for planning ship. From the simulation results it was found that the use of V-shaped hull vane effectively reduced the resistance at Fr < 0.6 with the reduction in resistance reaching 30.7% at Fr = 0.34. The use of V-shaped hull vane also reduces resistance greater than the use of straight-shaped hull vane in each variation of the simulation. The use of hull vane, both shape increase the resistance of the ship at Fr > 0.6, this is because the use of hull vane at high speed makes the ship bow-down trim which makes the bow more immersed. Moreover, the resulting waves are high enough to cause greater wave resistance compared to ships without hull vane.
