Abstract

=========================================================
Keratin is a hard-to-degrade protein because it has cysteine disulfide bonds, hydrogen, and hydrophobic interactions. Keratinase is widely used by the animal feed industry, some bacteria can produce keratinase, which can be used as an alternative in the biotechnology of the animal feed industry. Chicken feathers are wastes that contain keratin, by utilizing Bacillus as a producer of keratinase, the chicken feathers can be used as a quality feed. Bacillus has quite a variety of species members and its diversity can be analyzed using the 16S rRNA gene marker. This literature study discussed the diversity of keratinase-producing Bacillus spp. through comparisons of 16S rRNA sequences based on the database on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This study also analyzed the keratinolytic activity of some of the Bacillus species in detail based on reputable international scientific literature sources.
