Abstract
Pada penelitian ini, telah dibuat minyak dari biji tanaman johar (Senna seamea
Lam) dengan metode ekstraksi menggunakan n-Heksana dan dilanjutkan dengan
pemurnian. Biji johar memiliki kadar minyak rendah yakni 13,6%. Minyak yang dihasilkan
berwarna kuning kehijauan, dengan indeks bias tinggi (1,44), viskositas bilangan asam dan
bilangan peroksida yang rendah (44,9 cp; 16,66 mg KOH/g minyak dan 5,54 meq O2/1000
g minyak). Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan minyak biji johar mampu mewarnai bakteri
Gram negatif dan bakteri tahan asam tapi tidak untuk bakteri Gram positif. Pewarnaan
menggunakan minyak biji johar tergolong pewarnaan sederhana
