Abstract

The NMC battery is a type of nickel-based battery whose demand is increasing, one of which is in the electric vehicle industry. NMC is made from high-quality nickel produced from sulfide ore in the form of nickel (II) sulfate hexahydrate (NiSO4.6H2O). However, the less amount of sulfide ore we have to produce NiSO4.6H2O from laterite ore which is more abundant in nature. Therefore, this research was conducted to produce nickel sulfate in the form of NiSO4.6H2O from the ore and then through the leaching process. The variations made were variations in the mass ratio of ferronickel per volume of H2SO4 with variations in the ratio of 1/40, 1/50, 1/60, 1/70 and 1/80. To see the percentage extraction of Ni in the release process, the AAS tester was carried out. To find out the chemical composition, compounds formed and to calculate the Ni yield in the product, XRD and EDX tests were carried out. The best percentage extraction of Ni was obtained at 100% at 1/70 ratio. In each solid/liquid ratio variation, a NiSO4.6H2O compound is formed with the highest Ni content of 16.17% at a ratio of 1/80 so that the Ni yield value is obtained at 93.3%.
