Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest fish catching countries in Southeast Asia, so the fisheries sector plays an important role in the national economy. The catch of abundant vegetable is often worthless if the caught fish are rotten before they reach the fish auction. Therefore a cooling system is needed in fishing boats. Most fishermen use wet ice products as a cooling medium. Another way that can be used is to combine wet ice and dry ice with portable coolbox media. The addition of dry ice can prolong the melting period of wet ice, but only lasts a short time. To keep fish cooling even longer, it is necessary to apply the latest cooling system technology, which can be combined with the Refrigerated Sea Water (RSW) cooling system. With a combination of RSW and CSW (Chilled Sea Water) systems, namely ice cubes and dry ice on the Portable Coolbox media. The research method is by conducting experiments on a laboratory scale. The independent variables were carried out by using a combination of wet ice and dry ice cooling media in the RSW system. The results showed that the lowest temperature that can be achieved for each RSW-CSW ratio (wet ice and dry ice) in 180 minutes each is a 4: 0 ratio of 9,7 oC, using a 3: 1 combination aluminum container of 4,1 oC, 2: 2 at -1.5 oC, 1: 3 at -0,76 oC. and wrapped in ice gel combination 3: 1 at 2,25 oC, 2: 2 at 1,01 oC and 1: 3 at 2,03 oC. The combination of wet ice and dry ice 2: 2 with an aluminum container reaches the lowest temperature of -1.5 oC in 180 minutes.
