Abstract

In the process of machining material processing with a lathe, it is still widely used in the industrial world. One of them is working on a lathe with a boring process. In boring processes, there are many things that can affect the work, one of which is excessive vibration. Vibration with a very high amplitude will produce chatter on the workpiece and will have an impact on the quality of the resulting product. To reduce resonance due to very high amplitudes, it is necessary to install a Dynamic Vibration Absorber (DVA) to reduce excessive vibrations in the workpiece.
This final project research is about simulation using ANSYS harmonic response analysis software and vibration reduction analysis on a workpiece given a Split Radial Vibration Damper (SpRVD). The mass of SpRVD is designed in the form of a split clamp with AISI 4340 material and the SpRVD stiffness of rubber with the rubber material variables used, namely silicon rubber and polyurethane rubber. There is also a variation in the placement of the SpRVD on the workpiece with the position at the end (L), ¾ L, and ½ L. The main system components analyzed in this study are the workpiece with a diameter of 38 mm and a long overhang. 8 x D which has a natural frequency of 440 Hz. Chatter frequency as the excitation frequency is between 358 Hz - 545 Hz

obtained from 9 cutting parameters with variations in spindle rotation (n) = 920 rpm, 1250 rpm, and 2000 rpm, feed rate (f) = 0.1 mm / rev, and 0.15 mm / rev, and depth of cut (d) = 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm. The workpiece material used is AISI 4340. The output of this final project is a frequency response (bode diagram) and a stable plot.
From the simulations that have been carried out, there are 5 out of 9 cutting parameters that have stabilized after the addition of SpRVD with the lowest workpiece motion response, namely 0.00 306 mm in the y -axis direction and 0.0 0216 mm in the z-axis direction. In effective cutting parameters the system is reduced with varied results. The vibration reduction results obtained between the amplitude response of the workpieces that were not given SpRVD and those that were given SpRVD with the lowest percentage reduction were at spindle rotation = 1250 rpm, feed rate = 0.1 mm / rev, and depth of cut = 0.1 mm with a reduction result of 65.9% and for the largest percentage reduction in spindle rotation = 2000 rpm, feed rate = 0.1 mm / rev, and depth of cut = 0.3 mm with a reduction of 95.6%. Based on this research, it was found that the most stable and well-reduced system in the main system with polyurethane rubber stiffness material and the position of the end (L) of the workpiece.
