Abstract

Tires are an important component in a vehicle. The tires that are often used in everyday life are radial tires. Radial tires have advantages in terms of comfort and absorbs vibrations, but radial tires do not have the resistance to sharp objects such as nails or other sharp objects. Airless tires are emerging as an alternative to radial tires. Airless tires have resistance to sharp objects, have a comfort that is not inferior to radial tires. However, airless tires are still in the research stage so that they cannot be mass-produced, so the authors conduct research related to the production of airless tires using the casting method. From this background, the formulation of the problem is obtained, it is: How is the effect of inlet flow velocity on the polyurethane casting process with an airless tire design and How does the gate diameter influence the polyurethane casting process with an airless tire design.
The author begins the research by looking for a design for airless tires. Then the authors use references from research conducted by Agus Sigit and colleagues who carry out optimization related to the design of airless tires with polyurethane material. Then the authors conducted experiments related to molds that can be used for mass production and can withstand the heat generated by the polyurethane reaction. The material is ABS. The ABS material is shaped using a 3D printer in order to get the desired airless tire shape. Then the authors made a design related to airless tires that will be printed using SOLIDWORKS 2018. Then the design results are simulated using ANSYS 18.0: Fluid Flow (Fluent) software. The setup used is in accordance with existing data with variations in the form of inlet speeds of 1.4 m / s and 2 m / s. The inlet diameter is also varied with sizes 9 mm and 14 mm.
By doing this simulation, it is expected that casting results will be obtained with minimum defects by looking at the flow patterns produced when the simulation is carried out. From the research, it was found that the higher the fluid inlet velocity, the smaller the average density obtained and when the diameter of the fluid inlet was greater, the average density would also be smaller. From the simulation results, the smallest average density value is 96.52% at the inlet diameter of 15 mm and the inlet velocity is 2 m / s, and the largest average density value is 97.82% at 10 mm inlet diameter and inlet velocity 1,4 m/s.
