Abstract

TPA Melonguane is the only TPA operating in the Talaud Islands Regency, precisely located on Karakelang Island. The location of the landfill is in a hilly area with contours varying between +70.00 to +86.00 which are surrounded by open land. At the beginning of 2019, the Melonguane TPA was damaged due to a natural disaster in the form of a landslide. The landslide occurred on a dirt road that was used as a road to IPL. Then, in August 2019, another landslide occurred on the slope near the IPLT workshop building. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the causes of landslides and alternative remedies so that landslides do not occur again.
Based on the results of the slope stability analysis before the landslide occurred, the causes of the landslide included unsafe slope geometry, and high rainfall plus the earthquake that hit the Talaud Islands in early 2019. In this Final Project, several alternative slope improvements offered include reinforcement with sheet pile, geotextile+subdrain, and gabion+geotextile.
From the calculation results of the slope improvement planning, it is found that 1) Sheetpile reinforcement requires 2 sheet piles with a length of 15m and 17m respectively, installed with a width of 20m for the landslide area; 2) Reinforcement of subdrain+geotextile, slope geometry is made in 3 levels; the lower and middle slopes require 8 layers of geotextile with a length of 5m; the upper slope requires 11 layers of geotextile with a length of 5m; and subdrain dimensions 20cm x 20cm 3) Gabion + geotextile reinforcement, slope geometry is made in 3 levels; gabion dimensions 50x100x200; the lower and middle slopes require 4 layers of geotextile with a length of 4m; the upper slope requires 6 layers of geotextile with a length of 4m.
