Abstract

Population of Rochia nilotica decreasing due to exploitation for shell’s industry, so that monitoring is needed. The Indonesian government releases the policy for catch size of R. nilotica in size of 3 80 mm. This study aimed to mapping the potential trade of R. nilotica in Indonesia including Sumatera(Smt), Sulawesi(Sul), Maluku-NTT(Mal), and Papua(Pap) based on the morphometric compotition and size trends of shells. The morphometric analysis using parameters of length (l), width (w), and weight (wg) that measured by caliper, meanwhile data distribution of morphometric using Descriptive Statistic-Excel 2010. The results revealed the yearly fluctuative data of morphometric composition of R. nilotica. The good quality of shell size (380mm) respectively were found from Smt (l = 95.13-104.49 mm; w = 86.61-103.46mm; wg = 172.21-321.96 gr), Mal ( l = 91.26-106.72 mm; w = 86.53-108.73 mm; wg = 228.01-365.62 gr), Sul (l = 86.92-99.1 mm; w = 84.31- 96.25 mm; wg = 205.39-317.33 gr) and Pap (l = 82.46-99.58 mm; w = 76.49-101.24 mm; wg=182.57-283.07 gr). Among 909 samples of R. nilotica observed, 89% had standard width (380mm), where showed mapping potential of Smt (33%); Mal (24%); Sul (18%); Pap (14%). Shells that were not have standard width were in size of 51.46-72.15 mm, i.e. at Smt (1,65%); Mal (0,9%); Sul (5,6 %); Pap (3,19%). In overall, 53,9 % of shell in condition broken protoconch.
