Abstract

Load shedding is a method of load rejection by turning off the generation system due to internal and external disturbances through a switching/trip process. Opening or closing of a CB (Circuit Breaker) causes a configuration change to current and voltage. If the transformer experiences a switching process or a short circuit, a high enough current will flow into the transformer windings which can affect the quality of the transformer. This final project will identify and calculate the transient current in the winding of the 21/500 kV power transformer at PLTU Paiton Unit 5 by modeling the load shedding through simulation in ATPDraw and comparing SFRA (Sweep Frequency Response Analysis) data to determine the quality of the transformer winding. Based on the simulation, the 21/500 kV power transformer has a nominal current of 21 kA on the primary side and 883.3 A on the secondary side. When load shedding occurred due to a single phase to ground fault, a large transient current occurs reaching 19,937 kA on the primary side and 3,171 kA on the secondary side. When load shedding occurred due to a 3-phase to ground fault, a large transient current occurs reaching 37,401 kA on the primary side and 5,160 kA on the secondary side. From the results of the transient current obtained, the transient current is still within the safe limits of the transformer endurance line. Transformer windings is not deformed and shifted based on SFRA data.
