Abstract

ASTM A106 Grade B steel is a material widely used in piping in the oil and gas industry. ASTM A106 is also known as ASME SA106 pipe, this steel is commonly used in piping fields to transport liquids and gases indicating higher temperatures and pressure levels. This is because ASTM A106 Grade B steel has properties that suit the needs of the oil mining industry. However, when compared to other steels such as High Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel, etc. ASTM A106 Grade B steel has fairly low corrosion resistance. One way corrosion control can be done is with the addition of inhibitors. In this study, the inhibitors used were organic inhibitors of moringa leaf extract (moringa oleifera L.) that were applied to the electrolyte environment of carbon dioxide with variables that include temperature and increased concentration. The test temperature variations used are 60oC, 65oC, 70oC, and 75oC. As for the variation in concentrations used are 0 ppm, 400 ppm, 800 ppm, and 1200 ppm. Tests conducted in this study were GC-MS Test, FTIR Test, Polarization Test, EIS Test, and AAS Test. Gc-MS Test results show the presence of compounds 3,5,7-Trihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxypHenyl)-4H-chromen4-one which belongs to flavonoid group compounds so as to identify the presence of flavonoids in moringa leaf extract inhibitors. FTIR test results show cluster functions such as O-H; C≡N, NH3+ and NO2 are intercepted on steel surfaces. Polarizing results showed that the addition of optimal concentration occurred at a concentration of 800 ppm with an efficiency of 90,69% and the temperature of the optimal carbon dioxide solution used to lower the corrosion rate was when the temperature was 60oC. The results of this test also showed that moringa leaf extract inhibitors are mixing inhibitors. And lastly EIS testing showed an increase in Rp when the concentration of moringa leaf extract inhibitors was added.
