Abstract

A heat exchanger is an equipment used to exchange thermal energy (enthalpy) between two or more liquids, between a solid and a liquid surface, or between solid and liquid particulates, at different temperatures and in thermal contact (Shah, 1960). Heat exchanger that continues to be operated will form fouling. This fouling will cause considerable losses such as increasing capital costs. Based on the problem of fouling in the heat exchanger, it is necessary to minimize the fouling resistance by using a genetic algorithm optimization method. The fouling resistance obtained is compared with 4 types of crude oil. Types of crude oil which include dulang 1983, tapis 1983, miri light 1983 and bintulu 2001 in the assay data in Aspen HYSYS V10. Then the modeling for fouling resistance on the heat exchanger E-1102 and E-1106 was carried out using the Polley model. The results of the fouling resistance modeling for E-1102 is 1.89E-04 and E-1106 is 3.68E-04. After that, optimization was carried out using evolutionary and genetic algorithm (GA) method. After optimization by manipulating the mass flow rate of each crude oil for kerosene products. After optimization, the fouling resistance value for E-1102 is 1.78E-05 and 1.73E-05 while E-1106 is 3.59E-05 and 3.40E-05.
