Abstract

This research elaborates regarding to the coal reorder point and risk analysis for coal supply chain of PT. X with the goal of reducing average inventory level and understanding supply chain risk. The supply chain is analyzed and modelled using a discrete event simulation model. The existing reorder point used by the company is calculated by using the normal safety stock formula proposed by Ballou, 2004. The discrete event simulation is then used to analyze the existing average inventory level. Coal reorder point level is then optimized by using trial-and-error experiment utilizing the simulation model while keeping service level above 95%. The maximum inventory level of each reorder point level is then compared with the stockpile capacity available. After optimization, there might be scenarios when the optimal reorder point is no longer valid. These scenarios are identified by using supply chain risk analysis which uses Failure Mode and Effect Analysis to explore the possible failures which might cause the optimal reorder point to change and need to be re-evaluated.
