Abstract

Biomarker analysis of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon fractions in the PLM-1 sediment of the Ngrayong Formation has been carried out to determine the implications for organic geochemical characteristics. Analysis of biomarkers was carried out through extraction, fractionation, and identification of compound structures using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Bimodal distribution pattern of n-alkane compounds, parameters such as CPI (1,30); OEP (1,19); LHCPI (0,03); Wax Index (0,21); ACL (28,83); AlkTerr (0,39); n-C17/n-C31 (0,03); n-C29/n-C17 (32,67); n-C31/n-C19 (36,81) as well as some compounds of the aromatic hydrocarbon fraction indicate the input of organic matter from various sources. The ratio of C31αβ 22S/(22S+22R)>1 and the presence of hopanoid compounds with configurations of bb and ba indicate a low level of sediment maturity. In addition, the identification of de-A-lupane and C31 homohopane compounds indicated that the sediment was deposited in an oxic environment. Biomarka analysis conducted on PLM-1 sediment samples of the Ngrayong Formation showed organic geochemical characteristics such as input of organic matter from various sources, low maturity level, and oxic depositional environment.
