Abstract

Sumber Pawon Forest is a protected area and does not yet have data on tree species richness. Information on the distribution and tree species richness is important for understanding the structure and function of forest ecosystems. Research to obtain descriptive data on species richness and tree distribution patterns was carried out in the protected forest of Sumber Pawon, Kediri, East Java in the period November 2020 - January 2021. To determine species richness an inventory method was carried out by means of Systematic Strip Sampling in all forest areas. Standardized Morisita Dispersion Index (Ip) method is used to determine the distribution pattern of species. From the analyst results, it is known that Sumber Pawon forest is a lowland forest type. There were 878 individual trees belonging to 17 species and 8 families. The Malvaceae and Moraceae family were the family with the highest number of species, with C. Elastica from the Moraceae family being the species with the highest individual abundance. The tree species richness of Sumber Pawon forest is low when compared to other forests on the island of Java. This is caused by the condition of the forest which is a disturbances secondary forest. The results of distribution analysis showed that there were 16 species having a clustered distribution pattern, namely Pteresperpum javanicum, Ceiba petandra, Hibiscus similis, Artocarpus elasticus, Ficus elastica, Ficus septica, Castilla elastica, Albizia chinensis, Leucaena leucocephala, Samanea saman, Tabernaemontana macrocarpa, Alstonia scholaris, Swietenia mahogany, Gnetum Gnemon, Gluta renghas, and Tectona Grandis. This clumped pattern is thought to be caused by limiting factors in the existing population such as limited seed distribution or environmental conditions. Random distribution pattern was found for only in 1 species, namely Theobroma cacao L. This was due to the limitation of cacao to reproduce and distribute because only 1 individual was found in the Sumber Pawon forest.
