Abstract

In recent years the demand for fossil fuels has increased, this can cause fossil fuel reserves to be depleted. To reduce the use of fossil fuels, alternative energy is needed. One of the alternative energies that can be used to replace fossil fuels is LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas). The use of alternative fuels for LPG in diesel engines is done by converting diesel engines into dual fuel. This study aims to determine the effect of using dual fuel LPG-Diesel on engine performance including power, torque, and fuel consumption. The study was conducted using a Yanmar TF 85 MH engine at 2000 RPM engine speed with variations in loading of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 watts on diesel fuel, dual fuel with variations in injector openings of 3 ms, 4 ms, 5 ms and using a conventional converter. kits. Based on the results of the study, the use of LPG in this dual fuel system can replace diesel fuel consumption up to 73% in the 3ms injector opening variation experiment, 86% in the 4ms injector opening, 93% in the 5ms injector opening, and 82% in the experiment. using conventional tools. When using dual fuel there is a decrease in power and average torque of up to 1.81% at injector opening for 3 ms, 0.94% at injector opening for 4 ms, 1.33% at injector opening for 5 ms, and 1.95% when using conventional tools. When using dual fuel there is a decrease in spesific fuel consumption of up to 42% at the injector opening for 3 ms, 39% at the injector opening for 4 ms, 44% at the injector opening for 5 ms, and 31% when using conventional tools.
