Abstract

Large amount of waste is generated from manufacturing, industrial, household, factory, and mining processes. Utilization of waste provides many benefits for the environment to the government budget. One of the many types of solid waste is waste made from glass. Based on KNLH statistical data, since 2008, it states that glass waste produced by 26 big cities in Indonesia reaches 0.7 tons per year and will continue to grow. This encourages solutions for the use of glass waste by applying it in the field of civil engineering, especially on road pavements. In this study, glass waste in the form of glass powder was used as a filler. Glass waste was chosen because it has high adhesion properties, so it can bind as a filler. This study aims to determine the effect of adding glass waste as a filler, the best glass filler content on Marshall characteristics, and the effect of adding glass filler to the compressive strength of the asphalt concrete mixture. The addition of glass filler to the asphalt concrete binder course mixture used are variations of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% glass filler of the total filler weight. The results showed that the use of glass filler by 50% of the total filler weight produces an asphalt mixture that has high stability and flow values that can withstand traffic loads. Asphalt mixture with 50% glass filler also produces lower VIM and VMA values, and higher VFA values indicating that the glass filler can fill the voids in the mixture. The ITS value in the asphalt mixture with glass filler content also produces a more resistant mixture from indirect tensile forces and potential damage to water.
