Abstract

Along with the development of 5G, there are several new waveform
candidates, one of them is Filter Bank Multi-Carrie (FBMC). Because FBMC is
superior to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in the field of
spectral efficiency and robustness against Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) and Inter-
Carrier Interference (ICI), FBMC is expected to be a system that can work better
in various fields of technology, such as in Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication
on Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) technology. The performance of V2V
communication is influenced by Doppler frequency which arises from the change
of vehicle speed and the scatter around that makes performance degradation.
Additionally, the presence of intrinsic interference in FBMC leads to performance
degradation because it cannot withstand the Doppler frequency that is existence in
the V2V channel.
This paper will analyze the performance of the FBMC/OQAM system that
works on the V2V channel and lead to the presence of Doppler Effect. The result
from the simulation shows that the Bit Error Rate (BER) mean of FBMC/OQAM
system are 0.4 and 0.44 respectively for system 4-ary and 16-ary through V2V
channel. Other than that, the performance also suffers from the instability by BER
variance for system 4-ary and 16-ary are 0.15 and 0.19. To improve FBMC/OQAM
performance, simulation with the variation of the range value of Angle of Departure
(AoD) and Angle of Arrival (AoA) of each path that is used in V2V channel
simulation is done. The result shows that the FBMC/OQAM system will have BER
mean 0.0018 and 0.0035 if the range value of AoD and AoA that is used are
(−0.1, 0.1) fro 4-ary and (−0.075, 0.075) for 16-ary. Even though
FBMC/OQAM performance’s increase, it still cannot surpass OFDM
performance’s that work on V2V channel with the same range angle value for AoD
