Abstract

Bracket serves as an additional force of two construction elements to minimize the occurrence
of crack or deformation. One of the uses of brackets lies in the construction of the ship's engine
foundation. The purpose of this study is to find out what is the optimal bracket size in an engine
foundation construction. In this study, calculations were done with variations in the size of
bracket legs to see the effect of bracket size on the stress that occurs in brackets. The size of the
bracket legs used is the existing size from the ship, the size from the calculation according to
the standards of Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia, 468 mm, 398 mm, 328 mm, and 257 mm. This
research uses Finite Element Software to simplify the calculation process. In addition to bracket
size, calculations were also done by considering the angle of tilt of the engine foundation due
to the rolling motion of the ship which is 00, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 300. To know whether the
stress in each bracket is allowed or not, the stresses are compared to the allowable stress that
has been determined by Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia. The result of this study is that all variations
in bracket size still meet the material clearance stress at each slope tested.
