Abstract

Kapal crew boat “Orela” merupakan kapal semi-planing yang digunakan sebagai kapal operasional milik PT. Orela Shipyard. Dalam upaya meningkatkan efisiensi pengoperasiannya, akan dipasang hull vane pada kapal tersebut. Hull vane merupakan sebuah hydrofoil pada bagian buritan kapal yang berfungsi untuk mengurangi hambatan kapal karena adanya gaya angkat yang akan menimbulkan efek koreksi trim saat kapal berlayar. Pada penelitian sebelumnya sudah dilakukan simulasi hull vane dengan sudut serang 0o, 2o, 4o, dan 6o dan didapatkan hasil bahwa sudut serang tersebut tidak optimal untuk seluruh kecepatan kapal. Saran dari penelitian sebelumnya untuk mengganti ukuran dari hull vane agar mengurangi gaya angkat dari hull vane. Untuk itu, pada penelitian ini dilakukan simulasi Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dengan variasi sudut serang dan kecepatan kapal serta ukuran hull vane yang berbeda agar didapatkan sudut serang optimal pada setiap kecepatan kapal. Simulasi CFD dilakukan dengan variasi sudut serang -2o, 0o, 2o, 4o, dan 6o pada kecepatan 11 knot, 17 knot, 20 knot, dan 26 knot. Pada kecepatan 11 knot, didapatkan hasil bahwa kapal dengan hull vane 2o menghasilkan pengurangan hambatan kapal. Penggunaan hull vane pada kecepatan diatas 11 knot tidak efektif dikarenakan pada setiap variasi memberikan hambatan lebih besar dikarenakan nilai side force dan lift force lebih besar dibandingkan kapal tanpa hull vane.

“Orela” crew boat is a semi-planing boat owned by PT. Orela Shipyard used for company’s operational purposes especially in coastal area. In order to increase its operational efficiency, a hull vane will be installed on the boat. Basically, hull vane is a hydrofoil installed at the stern part of the ship that can reduce ship resistance due to its lift force. The lift force could create a trim correction effect while the ship is sailing. In previous research, a simulation on the hull vane has been done with 0o, 2o, 4o, dan 6o of angle of attack. But the result shows that angle of attack is not the best setup or not optimal for every boat speed. The suggestion from the previous research was to reduce the size of the hull vane. Therefore in this research, Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations is done with variations in hull vane angle of attack and boat speed with a different size in order to obtain the optimal hull vane angle of attack for every boat speed. The angle of attacks that used for the CFD simulations are -2o, 0o, 2o, 4o, dan 6o with 11 knots, 17 knots, 20 knots, and 26 knots of speed. For 11 knots of speed, boat with 2o hull vane generated the most resistance reduction. The use of hull vanes at speeds above 11 knots is not effective because each variation provides greater resistance due to the greater side force and lift force values compared to ships without hull vanes.
