Abstract

Small leaks are a major problem in water distribution networks. Small leaks are very difficult to detect resulting in losses in the form of loss of water from the reservoir in the long term. Therefore the localization of small leaks needs to be taken seriously. Leaks can be identified based on the information obtained from the sensor. The accuracy of the information depends on the placement of the sensors and it would be better if the sensors could be installed on all pipes. However, the high price of sensors causes the availability of sensors to be limited. Plus the complexity of the water distribution network creates a variety of sensor placement solutions. The purpose of this study is to carry out an effective sensor placement strategy to localize leaks. This research method simulates leakage by applying genetic algorithms to obtain optimal sensor placement solutions. In addition, this research also adds a new variable to the Fitness Function which aims to determine its effect on the selected solution. Evaluation of sensor placement solutions based on simulation data that has been matched by each leak simulation case and provides accuracy for the solution
