Abstract

Converting conventional cars (ICE) to electric cars (BEV) is a solution for increasing the number of electric vehicles that is cheaper than buying a new electric car. The layout design of the components determines the stability of the converted vehicle, so it must be carried out based on a series of analyzes and calculations which are very complex, making it difficult for car conversion workshops. In this final project, a graphical user interface is created that functions as a tool for calculating the center of mass and stability in the ICE to BEV car conversion methodology using MATLAB App Designer. The method in this application uses application input consisting of ICE car specifications, BEV component specifications, and BEV component layout. The application output is the center of mass and stability of ICE and BEV cars. The calculation of the center of mass is programmed in the MATLAB App Designer. While the stability analysis which includes slip, skid, and roll is simulated using the Simulink model. The output of stability is the cornering limit on variations in the front wheel steering angle. The result of this research is the application for ICE to BEV car conversion methodology which is able to assist in determining the layout of BEV components with stability parameters. In the application, testing of 3 variations of the battery pack layout can be carried out, namely the rear, middle and front loading positions with the motor and controller positions placed on the front. In the middle loading experiment for the Toyota Calya conversion, it was found that the CoG shifted 5,34 cm backwards and 8,55 cm downwards. Obtained critical stability conditions in the form of cornering limits at variations of steering angle of 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, and 30° respectively are 56,097 km/h; 40,053 km/h; 33,071 km/h; 29,002 km/h; 26,30km/h; and 24,38 km/h, which means that the stability of the Calya BEV with middle loading is quite good.
