Abstract

Sulfated silica has been synthesized by wet impregnation method. Variation used was the amount of sulfuric acid in toluene. The catalysts were characterized byinfrared spectroscopic, X-ray diffraction and surface aciditytechniques. Catalyst activity was testedin the oleic acid esterificationwith methanol at a molar ratio of 1:30 for 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. The results showed that sulfated silica is an amorphous solid withthe highest acidity and the best catalyst activitywas observed in60S/MK catalyst with a 94,12% conversionfor 60 minutes of reaction time
