Abstract

Most people with blindness and visual impairment experience
discrimination in everyday life, in aspects like social, economy, and even in
architecture. One of the way to tackle this problem is to provide them with
an environment which does not handicap them even further : an accessible
environment where they can move in independence.
Starting from the notion that states the real fear of the people with
blindness and visual impairment is not to not being able to see, but to be
feeling completely lost in darkness, the design is trying to tackle the problem
by providing easy navigation and orientation for the people with blindness
and visual impairment. Using narrative method, the design will focus on
multisensory experience to provide different architecural quality on each
space, creating different impression for people with blindness and visual
impairment to ease their navigation in the building.
The aim of the design is to create an architecture which not can only
be accessible for the poeple with blindness and visual impairment, but also
raising their indpendence, confidence, and dignity.
