Abstract

Silika dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku beberapa industri, salah satunya adalah industri kaca. Industri kaca memerlukan pasir silika dengan kemurnian tinggi yang memiliki kandungan besi (Fe) maksimum 0,03% serta kandungan silika (SiO2) minimum 99%. Oleh karena itu, untuk mendapatkan kemurnian silika yang tinggi perlu dilakukan proses pemurnian. Salah satu metode pemurnian pasir silika dapat dilakukan dengan proses sonikasi menggunakan bantuan asam lemah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh sonikasi pada proses pemurnian silika serta memperoleh konsentrasi asam dan waktu proses pemurnian silika yang optimal. Produk padatan dianalisa dengan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Flouroscense (XRF), dan produk cair dianalisa menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Pada proses pemurnian pasir silika Rembang hasil analisa XRF menunjukkan bahwa kemurnian tertinggi diperoleh dari penggunaan media leaching aquadest dengan waktu sonikasi 60 menit dimana kemurnian meningkat dari 94,16 menjadi 97,97%. Sedangkan kadar pengotor besi terkecil diperoleh pada sonikasi 60 menit menggunakan asam oksalat 1 g/L, yang menghasilkan kandungan Fe 0,07%. Hasil analisa SEM menunjukan adanya perubahan morfologi pada pasir silika sebelum dan setelah proses sonikasi baik menggunakan aquadest dan asam oksalat. Sedangkan analisa spektrofotometer UV-Vis menunjukkan bahwa pada larutan hasil sonikasi terdapat kandungan Fe.

Silica sand can be used as raw material for several industries , one of which is a glass industry. For glass industry silica sand must have hight purify, with contents of iron (Fe) maximum 0,03% and minimum of Silika (SiO2) is 99%. Therefore purification process must be performed, one of several ways is using ultrasound with assistance of waek acid. The purpose of this study is to study the effect of ultrasound on silica sand purification and find the concentration of the acid with the optimum processing time to obtain purity silica sand with a high content. The result were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) for solid, and liquid using Spectro-photometer UV-Vis. In the purification process of Rembang ‘s silica sand, XRF analysis results showed that the purity of silica sand with aquadest for 60 minutes ultrasound can increased from 94,16% to 97,97% while the lowest impurities content get form ultrasound with 1 g/L oxalic acid for 60 minutes. While the results of SEM analysis showed morphological changes of silica sand after ultrasound process with leaching media are aquadest and oxalic acid. For analysis of the results of ultrasound solution by UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed that the presence of dissolved Fe in both media media leaching with aquadest and oxalic acid.
