Abstract

Coupler adalah salah satu komponen dalam kereta api yang berfungsi untuk menyambungkan antar gerbong kereta. Komponen ini terbuat dari low alloy cast steel yang sesuai dengan spesifikasi dari AAR-M201 grade E. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh temperatur tempering terhadap struktur mikro dan sifat mekanik baja AAR-M201 Grade E. Proses perlakuan panas yang dilakukan adalah hardening pada temperatur 925 °C selama 3 jam, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan tempering pada variasi temperatur 550, 600, dan 650 °C selama 3 jam. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah metalografi, uji tarik, uji kekerasan, dan uji impak. Hasil yang didapatkan, baja AAR-M201 Grade E mempunyai struktur mikro bainit, perlit, dan ferrit setelah dilakukan proses hardening, dan menjadi bainit temper setelah dilakukan tempering. Hasil sifat mekanik yang paling optimal didapat saat temperatur tempering yang digunakan 600°C, menghasilkan nilai kekuatan tarik 828,88 MPa, kekuatan luluh 735,64 MPa, elongasi 11%, reduksi area 31,35%, kekerasan 27 HRc, dan kekuatan impak sebesar 34 Joule pada temperatur -40°C. Nilai yang dihasilkan hampir seluruhnya memenuhi standar AAR, kecuali nilai elongasi.===============================================================================================================
Coupler is a component that used to connect each wagon in a train. It is made of low alloy cast steel under spesification from AAR-M201 Grade E. This research aiming to know tempering temperature effect to microstructures and mechanical properties of AAR-M201 Grade E steel. Heat treatment used in this research is hardening – tempering. Steel hardened at 925°C for 3 hours, and tempered at 550, 600, and 650°C for 3 hours. Test was done to know the microstructures and properties is metallographic test, tensile test, hardness test, and impact test. The result shows that AAR-M201 Grade E steel has microstructure identified as bainit, perlit, and ferrit after hardened. The microstructure transform into tempered bainit after steel was tempered. Optimum mechanical properties was goten from tempering temperature 600°C, producing tensile strength of 828,88 MPa, yield strength of 735,64 MPa, 11% elongation, 31,35% of area reduction, hardness 27 HRc, and impact strength of 34 Joule at -40°C.
