Abstract

Secara umum permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam operasi penambangan nikel laterit adalah jarak pengangkutan bijih ke screening station yang makin jauh setiap tahunnya. Hal ini menyebabkan penurunan produktivitas keseluruhan peralatan tambang dan peningkatan biaya unit operasi tambang setiap tahunnya. Suatu kajian mobile screening station waterless system (MSSWS) dilakukan oleh perusahaan X untuk menggantikan fixed screening station (FSS) dengan sistem penyiraman air di tahun 2020. Penggunaan MSSWS ini akan meningkatkan fleksibilitas operasi penambangan dengan menurunkan total jarak angkut penambangan dan mengurangi kandungan air dalam bijih nikel. Sehingga diharapkan akan berdampak pada peningkatan produktivitas dan efisiensi biaya operasional penambangan selama masa umur tambang. Penelitian ini menginvestigasi tingkat keekonomian pengoperasian MSSWS untuk pertama kalinya diterapkan di industri penambangan nikel laterit. Terdapat tiga alternatif investasi yang dibandingkan di dalam penelitian ini untuk menentukan pilihan yang paling ekonomis, yaitu: mempertahankan FSS saat ini (alternatif 1), pengadaan MSSWS (alternatif 2), dan pengadaan FSS yang baru (alternatif 3). Evaluasi dilakukan dengan melakukan analisis penghematan biaya, proyeksi increment cash flow, perhitungan NPV dan IRR serta analisis sensitivitas pada alternatif yang paling ekonomis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa MSSWS memberikan nilai NPV dan IRR tertinggi. Penurunan jarak pengangkutan bijih dan kandungan air yang dikontribusikan dari operasional MSSWS menghasilkan penghematan biaya yang berarti melalui pengurangan biaya investasi dan operasional truk. Melalui penelitian ini dapat mengkonfirmasikan bahwa pengadaan MSSWS adalah pilihan yang paling ekonomis. Keekonomian MSSWS sangat sensitif terhadap perubahan jarak pengangkutan bijih. Oleh karena itu, berdasarkan hasil analisis sensitivitas maka MSSWS akan dipindahkan pada periode waktu tertentu ketika perubahan minimum pada jarak rata-rata pengangkutan tercapai.

A common problem faced in lateritic nickel mining operations that the ore hauling distance to the existing fixed screening station becomes farther to the following years. It results decreasing in overall productivity of mining equipment and increasing in mining operating unit costs each year. A study of mobile screening station waterless system (MSSWS) is carried out by Company X to replace a fixed screening station (FSS) with water used system in year 2020. The use of MSSWS will increase the flexibility of mining operations by reducing total mining hauling distances and reducing the water content in nickel ore. Furthermore, it will be expected on increasing productivity and cost efficiency in mines over the life of the mine. The study investigates the economic level of operating MSSWS for the first-time application in the laterite nickel mining industry. Three investment alternatives are compared in this study in order to determine the most economical option, i.e.: maintaining existing FSS (alternative 1), purchasing a MSSWS (alternative 2), and purchasing a new FSS (alternative 3). Evaluation is made by performing cost savings analysis, increment cash flow projections, NPV and IRR calculation. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis of the most economic option will be done as well. The results show that MSSWS gives the highest NPV and IRR. The decreasing of ore hauling distance and water content that are contributed by MSSWS yields to significant cost saving in term of reducing hauled trucks investment and its operating cost. Thus, this study has been successfully confirmed that purchasing of MSSWS is the most economical option. In accordance to this analysis, the economic of MSSWS is very sensitive with the changed of ore hauling distance. In addition to this result a sensitivity analysis will be undertook based on the situation of moving the MSSWS over certain period of time once the minimum change in the average ore hauling distance is occurred.
