Abstract

Monomer asam tereftalat berhasil diperoleh dari daur ulang
(depolimerisasi) limbah plastik polietilen tereftalat (PET).
Depolimerisasi PET menjadi asam tereftalat menggunakan
metode hidrolisis dilakukan pada rentang suhu 60
o
C sampai
o
100
C (dengan interval 10
o
C) menggunakan pelarut sekaligus
katalisator asam nitrat (HNO3) 13,5 M. Hasil rendemen terbanyak
adalah sebesar 75,7% (pada suhu 100
o
C). Monomer PET yang
diduga asam tereftalat (TPA) kemudian dianalisa menggunakan
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analyzis
(TGA), dan Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Terephthalic acid (TPA) sucsesfuly produced from
depolimerization of Poly Etylen Terephthalic (PET) using
hydrolysis process. The process used the nitric acid 13,5 M as a
solvent and catalysator at various temperatures 60 until 100
o
C
o
with interval 10
C. The maximum yield obtain was 75,7 % at
o
100
C. The product predicted as a TPA was analyzed with
Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analyzis
(TGA), dan Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
