Abstract

Echnological developments are now experiencing very rapid advances, especially in construction technology and offshore building buildings. The process of making ship construction and offshore buildings cannot be separated from the welding process and gradually the welding process will experience development therefore, this study aims to determine the strength of the tensile and hardness test in a welding method of SMAW (Shield Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and welding using a combination of SMAW and GMAW methods. Combined welding is a welding process that uses 2 welding methods on one joint. In this study, the A36 steel material is used which is one of the materials that is often applied for floating building construction, offshore buildings, offshore decks, jacket legs, tanks and pipes because it has properties that are softer and easier to shape. In observing the results of the tensile test, it can be concluded that the welding results with the combination method are higher than the other welding results of 475.33 MPa which is directly proportional to the micro test with the results of the number of pearlite phases in HAZ and weld metal being higher than the results of other pearlite phases. The hardness test results obtained from the data that have been obtained, it can be concluded that the highest value is found in GMAW welding. This is because it has a high quality metal deposit.
