Abstract

The electric vehicle trend is growing rapidly in the Indonesian automotive industry, prompting the government to issue Presidential Decree no. 55 of 2019 concerning the acceleration of the procurement of battery-based vehicles which opens up opportunities for PT Great Asia Link (GRAIN) to produce a series of electric car SUVs. As a new market player, PT GRAIN has various challenges such as market competition from big automotive brands, people's tastes, and another important aspect is the Domestic Content Level (TKDN) policy, where electric cars are targeted to have a TKDN percentage of 35%. To deal with this, the strategy taken by PT GRAIN is to market it as an operational car for BUMN, especially PLN, which is then expected to play in the medium-class SUV segmentation in the Indonesian market. The process of designing and designing the Electric SUV uses a market research approach to the national automotive industry, existing trends, and various policies that refer to the TKDN approach. The TKDN approach is applied to engineering packages, car bodies, and also interiors, where the design parameters are oriented to PLN Corporate Value and can be produced domestically as much as possible. From the results of this approach and analysis, two major design concepts are produced, namely, Prestige and EV Experience, which give the user the impression of appreciation, or a sense of achievement, as well as provide a new experience of driving with a battery-based car in the exterior and interior design.
