Abstract

The challenge of drastic global climate change has urged a transition to a green economy, which is further understood as an opportunity to revise and redefine the business models, products, services, and strategies of all industrial sectors, including tourism. The contribution of SMEs as an engine of macroeconomic expansion that pays attention to and makes environmental issues a basic concept of their business model is very important. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence the behavioral intention of SMEs in tourism areas in Indonesia to conduct green innovation using an integrated approach of Pro Environmental Planned Behavior (PEPB) and Technology Organization Environment. Offline and online questionnaires and interviews were used as data collection tools, and 205 SMEs that have done green innovation were respondents who participated in this study. The theoretical model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with top-level constructs. By testing different parameters of the structural model, measurement model, and model fit, the results met the set constraints. In addition, HTMT and Fornell & Larcker discriminant validity analyses were conducted to determine the overall fit of the model constructs. The findings of this study reveal that perceived authority support, perceived environmental concern, subjective norm, attitude, perceived behavioral control, compatibility, relative advantages, quality of human resources, external partnership, competitor pressure, and environmental uncertainty significantly influence SMEs' intention to do green innovation. While the perception of cost is known to have no effect, these findings contribute to the development of an integrated model of green innovation in tourism SMEs and provide advice to businesses, governments, and universities as elements that play a role in realizing the green economy transition.
