Abstract

The crisis in the recruitment of young farmers in Indonesia highlights the need for educational resources that can introduce oil palm plantation management in an engaging and accessible way. This research aims to develop an Android-based mobile game, ‘Petualangan Sawit Mandiri’, as an interactive educational tool on independent oil palm plantation management. The game was developed using the Unity Game Engine and the C# programming language, following the Game Development Life Cycle (GDLC) methodology. The game simulates the management of an oil palm plantation through the Nursery, Non-Producing Trees (NPT) and Producing Trees (PT) phases, complete with resource management and loan systems, as well as random events that represent real-world plantation conditions. Evaluation was carried out through Black Box Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), pre-tests and post-tests, as well as validation by oil palm experts. The test results showed that all application features functioned as designed. The UAT results achieved an average score of 3.74. Respondents’ average knowledge score increased from 6.45 in the pre-test to 9.70 in the post-test. Furthermore, the experts’ validation results indicated that the simulations implemented were consistent with the basic practices of independent oil palm plantation management. Based on these results, the ‘Petualangan Sawit Mandiri’ game has been successfully developed and is suitable for use as an interactive educational tool to enhance understanding of agronomic and financial management aspects in oil palm plantations.
