Abstract

In this era of digitalization, the development of all types of industries cannot be separated from technology, including the gaming industry. The gaming industry is experiencing rapid development in terms of quality and development on new platforms. The online mobile game is one of the most popular at this time, the convenience access of online mobile game which can be played anywhere at any time is a benchmark to compete in the gaming industry. The previous research has found that the addiction and loyalty of a player can influence their intention of purchase in a game. With this discovery, game developers are competing to provide better quality than competitors to established relationships and chemistry with gamers. This final project research focuses on the effect of addiction and loyalty of game players to in-game purchases. The increasing competition in online mobile games, especially with the battle royal genre, forces game developers to think more about profit from in-game purchases. So, this research can conclude with strategic recommendations for developers, what is the user's intention in making in-game purchases.
Objective: This final project research aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of the variable of addiction on the variable of purchase intention of the player's in purchasing features in the game. This study conducted an indirect effect analysis using the variable of loyalty as the mediating variable. This final project research uses the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method where the data collection process is carried out by distributing online questionnaires. Furthermore, to test the model using confirmatory factor analysis and to test the hypothesis using the SEM method because this method can be used to analyze between variables based on the existing hypotheses in a complex manner. The outcome of this study indicates that the variable of addiction has an influence on the variable of loyalty and the variable of loyalty also has an influence on the variable of purchase intention. Therefore, it can be concluded that addiction affects the loyalty of the user so that companies can focus on improving features in a game that can increase the purchase intention of a user. This final project research is expected to provide insight to game developers that established good relationships and chemistry with game players will have an impact on increasing player purchases in the game. This is very beneficial for game developers because they don't have to physically create new products but only by creating virtual products, game developers are able to increase revenue. In addition, other variables obtained from the literature review can also be used as recommendations for future implementation and development of the model.
