Abstract

Project scheduling is one of the key factors in the successful execution of construction projects. This study aims to compare the scheduling results of the Semarang Shipyard Civil Construction Project using the Critical Path Method (CPM) and the Precedence Diagram Method (PDM). The data used consist of activity lists, activity durations, and dependency relationships among activities. The analysis was conducted through the development of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), project network planning, and the calculation of scheduling parameters, including Earliest Start (ES), Earliest Finish (EF), Latest Start (LS), Latest Finish (LF), and float. The results indicate that the CPM method produces a total project duration of 117 days with a critical path of A–B–C–D–E–F–G–L–M–N–O–P–Q–R, while the PDM method results in a total project duration of 95 days with a critical path of A–B–C–D–G–H–M–N–O–P–Q–R. The PDM method is able to accelerate project completion by 22 days or 18.8% compared to CPM because it allows several activities to be performed concurrently through Start-to-Start (SS) and Finish-to-Finish (FF) relationships. Based on the findings, the PDM method is more effective than CPM in producing a more efficient project schedule for the Semarang Shipyard Civil Construction Project.
