Abstract
Integrasi UAV ke jaringan komunikasi modern menuntut keandalan tinggi, namun tautan Free Space Optics (FSO) rentan terhadap kondisi cuaca, sementara tautan Radio Frequency (RF) memiliki keterbatasan kapasitas. Tugas akhir ini mengevaluasi sistem hybrid FSO/RF switching pada jaringan UAV multi-hop berbasis kondisi kanal, di mana mekanisme hard switching memilih tautan FSO atau RF pada setiap hop berdasarkan nilai Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) sesaat terhadap ambang tertentu. Kanal FSO dimodelkan menggunakan distribusi Gamma-Gamma, sedangkan kanal RF menggunakan Nakagami-m fading pada empat hop sepanjang 0,5 km. Analisis dilakukan secara semi-analitik di MATLAB dan divalidasi melalui simulasi Monte Carlo. Skema hibrida secara konsisten mengungguli sistem FSO saja maupun RF saja, dengan mencapai Bit Error Rate (BER) sebesar 10⁻⁶ pada daya terima −15,7 dBm (clear air) dengan ambang optimum 10–14 dB, serta hanya tertinggal 1–2 dB dibandingkan Selection Combining (SC) ideal. Kontribusi utama penelitian ini adalah membuktikan bahwa mekanisme switching berbasis ambang SNR pada setiap hop mampu memberikan keandalan yang mendekati skema kombinasi ideal dengan kompleksitas perangkat yang jauh lebih rendah, sehingga layak diterapkan pada platform UAV dengan keterbatasan daya.

The integration of UAVs into modern communication networks demands high reliability, yet Free Space Optics (FSO) links are vulnerable to adverse weather conditions, while Radio Frequency (RF) links are limited in capacity. This final project evaluates a hybrid FSO/RF switching system for multi-hop UAV networks based on channel conditions, where a hard-switching mechanism selects either the FSO or RF link at each hop according to the instantaneous Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) relative to a predefined threshold. The FSO channel is modeled using the Gamma-Gamma distribution, while the RF channel follows the Nakagami-m fading model over four hops spanning 0.5 km. The system is evaluated semi-analytically in MATLAB and validated through Monte Carlo simulations. The hybrid scheme consistently outperforms both FSO-only and RF-only systems, achieving a Bit Error Rate (BER) of 10⁻⁶ at a received power of −15.7 dBm under clear-air conditions with an optimal switching threshold of 10–14 dB, while remaining only 1–2 dB behind the ideal Selection Combining (SC) scheme. The main contribution of this study is demonstrating that per-hop SNR-threshold switching can achieve reliability close to the ideal combining scheme with substantially lower hardware complexity, making it suitable for power-constrained UAV platforms.
