Abstract

Indonesia faces a substantial disparity between national salt production and high industrial salt demand, leading to heavy import reliance to fulfill industrial quality standards. This Final Project aims to design an Industrial Salt Plant with a production capacity of 200,000 tons/year using local traditional salt as the primary raw material to support the national salt self-sufficiency initiative. Through a comparative evaluation of process parameters, operating conditions, energy efficiency, and economic viability, the SALEX® (Salt Extraction) washing process was selected. This counter-current washing technology utilizes saturated brine to achieve high-purity salt (up to 99.77% NaCl) with lower energy consumption (steam-free) compared to conventional recrystallization methods. Utilizing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Indramayu Regency, West Java, was designated as the optimal plant site due to its raw material availability, proximity to industrial end-users (CAP), and supporting infrastructure. The plant design incorporates comprehensive process descriptions, Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), mass and energy balances, and economic feasibility studies. The final output yields salt crystals with a post-drying purity of 99.8% and a particle size reduced to 30 mesh. Designed for a operational timeframe of 330 days per year across a 15-year plant lifespan, the economic evaluation demonstrates an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 28.05%, a Payback Period (POT) of 3.72 years, and a positive Net Present Value (NPV) of IDR 376,164,005,802.39, confirming the commercial and technical feasibility of the proposed plant.
