Abstract

This final project aims to develop a trajectory activation mechanism based on human interaction force for a Cable-Driven Parallel Robot (CDPR) configured with four fully constrained cables and two degrees of freedom. In addition, a wrench feasible workspace (WFW) analysis was conducted to define a safe operating area and to validate the trajectory designed within the workspace. The CDPR system was developed using four NEMA23 stepper motors as actuators and quadrature rotary encoders as sensors to detect changes in cable length. The WFW analysis was performed with minimum and maximum cable tension limits of 1 N and 17.3 N, respectively. The trajectory was designed using a fifth-order polynomial method to generate a stable trajectory. The activation method was implemented by utilizing the interaction force exerted by the user on the end-effector to initiate the trajectory. The validation results based on changes in cable length throughout the trajectory showed RMSE values ranging from 0.061 to 0.512 mm and NRMSE values below 0.04% FS. These results indicate good agreement between the kinematic model and the experimental implementation. The wrench feasible workspace analysis conducted near the workspace boundary revealed the occurrence of cable slack when the cable tension was below 2 N, based on the simulated tension distribution. Furthermore, the interaction force estimated using the impulse-momentum concept for trajectory activation ranged from 1,194 x 10^-2 N to 4,921 x 10^-6 N. These results demonstrate that the force-estimation-based trajectory activation method was successfully implemented in the CDPR system without requiring additional force sensors. This approach enables simple and cost-effective human–robot interaction while demonstrating the potential for further development of more accurate force estimation methods and interactive control strategies in future research.
