Abstract

Fabrikasi dan karakterisasi directional coupler serat optik step-index multimode konfigurasi 2x2 telah dilakukan dengan menambahkan variasi beban pada proses heating and pressing. Serat optik dipotong sepanjan 120 mm dan dikupas di bagian tengah-tengah sepanjang 15 mm untuk dihilangkan bagian coating dan claddingnya. Variasi panjang kupasan yaitu 15 mm, 30 mm, dan 45 mm. Penghilangan bagian cladding dilakukan dengan melakukan perendaman pada cairan aseton (99%) dan alkohol (96%) dengan perbandingan 7:3. Serat optik difabrikasi menggunakan logam cetakan yang dipanaskan pada suhu ±118°C kemudian dikarakterisasi dengan optical power meter (OPM) pada panjang gelombang 1310 nm dan 1550 nm. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian tekanan (pressing) melalui penambahan beban pada fabrikasi directional coupler serat optik ini berpengaruh terhadap besarnya rugi daya serat optik akibat adanya mikrobending yang ditimbulkan. Karakterisasi directional coupler memberikan hasil coupling ratio yang seimbang antara output A2 dan B2 dengan perbandingan rasio yaitu 0,55 : 0,45 untuk input A1 dan 0,4 : 0,6 untuk input B1 pada panjang interaksi 33 mm dan massa beban 244,31 gram.

The fabrication and characterization of directional coupler of optical fiber step-index multimode x2 configuration has been done by adding load variation to the heating and pressing process. The optical fiber is cut along 120 mm and peeled in the center of the length of 15 mm to remove the coating and cladding parts. Variations in peak-lengths are 15 mm, 30 mm, and 45 mm. The removal of the cladding section was done by immersion of acetone liquor (99%) and alcohol (96%) with ratio of 7:3. Optical fibers are fabricated usin heated molded metal at temperatures of ±118°C then characterized by optical power meter (OPM) at 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths. Based on the results of research that has been done then it can be concluded that the pressure through the addition of load on the fabrication of directional coupler fiber optic effect on the amount of fiber optic power losses due to the microbending generated. Characterization of directional coupler gives balanced coupling ratio between A2 and B2 output with ratio of 0,55 : 0,45 for input A1 and 0,4:0,6 for input B1 at 33 mm interaction length and load mass 244,31 gram.
