Abstract

In Indonesia, motor vehicles increase in numbers every year. The exhaust from the motor vehicle causes 70 to 80 percent air pollution, while industrial air pollution is just 20 to 30 percent. The motor vehicle is thought to be a major source of air pollution, because it produces CO (Carbon Monoxide) gas, NO (Nitrogen Oxides), SO2 (Sulfur Dioxide), HC (Hydrocarbons), NMVOCs (Non Methane Volatil Organic Compounds), and Particulates. The public did not know that they were inhaling carbon monoxide gas, because it is colorless, odorless and tasteless. This is often the case with pedestrians, bicycle driver, and motorcycle driver. The higher concentrations of CO gas are inhaled by humans the more fatal the risk is to be accepted by humans, it can even cause death. From the problems above, research was done to create an air pollution monitoring device IoT based on the road using electrochemical gas sensors. Electrochemical gas sensors can be used to monitor air pollution in Surabaya, espsecially on the Arif Rahman Hakim road with an average amount of gas CO and SO2 39,54 ppm and 10,35 ppm at 07.00-08.00 WIB, at that hour people begin their daily activities like going to the office, and the average amount of gas CO and SO2 39,72 ppm and 10,38 ppm at 17.00-18.00 WIB, at that hour people end their daily activities like going home.
