Abstract

Kenaf merupakan salah satu tanaman penghasil serat yang banyak di temukan di Indonesia dan sudah dimanfaatkan sejak tahun 1986. Dengan sifat material yang kuat, antibacterial, serta bahan yang breathable, kenaf merupakan salah satu material yang tepat untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku industri dan produk sustainable, seperti sepatu ethical. Sepatu merupakan salah satu kebutuhan sandang utama dan ikon fashion masyarakat, terutama wanita. Selain itu, sepatu merupakan salah satu sektor industri strategis yang memberi kontribusi cukup signifikan terhadap perekonomian nasional. Disamping komoditas dan kelebihan yang kenaf miliki, produk eksisting dinilai kurang mengolah dan memaksimal keunikan serat sehingga hanya dimanfaatkan sebagai karung goni, dan produk yang kurang memiliki daya jual tinggi. Penggunaan metode eksperimen serat, eksplorasi tekstur tenun dan anyam kenaf, observasi, deep interview, dan affinity diagram pada penentuan desain, penelitian menghasilkan penngolahan serat kenaf sebagai material sepatu wanita dengan mengembangkan keindahan tekstur dan memaksimalkan karakter kenaf. Dengan inovasi tersebut, pemanfaatan serat kenaf sebagai sepatu berkonsep Urban, Comfort, dan Ethics yang menyesuaikan pasar, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan eksistensi kenaf pada sepatu ethical, serta menciptakan suatu peluang baru pada bidang sepatu.

Kenaf is one of the fiber-producing plants found in Indonesia and has been used since 1986. With strong, antibacterial and breathable characteristics, kenaf is the right material to be used as industrial raw material and sustainable product, such as ethical shoes. Shoes are one of the main clothing needs and fashion icons of the society, especially for women. In addition, shoe industry is one of the strategic sectors that contributes significantly to the national economy. Besides the commodities and the advantages they have, kenaf’s existing products are considered less processing and maximizing the uniqueness of the fiber, so they are only used as burlap sacks, and products with lack of high selling power. With fiber experiment method, texture exploration of kenaf weaving, observation, deep interview, and affinity diagram in determining design, the study resulted in the used of kenaf fiber as material for women's shoes by developing the beauty of the texture and maximizing the character of kenaf. With these innovations, the utilizing of kenaf fiber as an Urban, Comfort, and Ethics concept that adapts the market, are expected to increase the existence of kenaf in ethical shoes, and create a new opportunity in the shoes field.
