Abstract

Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) is basically an underwater robot that can be operated by someone on the surface. The ROV system consists of the vehicle, which is connected to the control and operator on the surface with a cable that carries electrical signals, video and data back and forth between the operator and the vehicle. The ROV is mainly used as an observation tool below. This robot is expected to be able to observe underwater environments, so that it can examine the circumstances that occur. ROV is equipped with a video camera, GPS and compass. For this final project is made to overcome the shortcomings of the previous ROV to help robots have a system for observation. ROV has been paired with a webcam as an observation system for underwater environments with a support program to be able to get and save photos taken by users. The GPS used for ROV is the Neo-6m GPS to determine the robot's position when it is on the surface of the air or in shallow air where that much air does not disturb the signal. If the robot moves the altitude too low then the GPS signal on the satellite will disappear. The compass used is the GY-273 hmc5883l compass module, to determine the direction of the compass facing the compass used by a magnetometer, but it needs calibration of the offset to find an accurate direction. From the design and installation of the three systems on the robot, it was found that the systems work, for camera images taken consistent with the quality of a target's photo within distance of 120cm but could be further helped by the existence of lighting for the photo darkness problem, for the compass and GPS have an average error value of 1.28% and error distance with an average of 1,393 meters.
