Abstract
Digitalisasi telah mengubah industri musik, dengan layanan streaming seperti Spotify mendominasi pasar dan fokus pada konversi pengguna gratis ke premium serta retensi pengguna premium. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi keputusan pengguna untuk meningkatkan langganan dari layanan dasar ke premium serta mempertahankan langganan premium. Metode penelitian menggunakan Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) dan Multi-Group Analysis dengan data dari kuesioner daring yang melibatkan 219 pengguna Spotify berusia 15–34 tahun. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa variabel enjoyment dan price value memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap intensi pengguna dasar untuk meng-upgrade ke premium. Sebaliknya, variabel ubiquity, social connectivity, dan music affinity menjadi faktor utama yang memengaruhi retensi pengguna premium. Variabel discovery of new content tidak menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan terhadap kedua keputusan tersebut. Selain itu, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa jenis langganan memoderasi hubungan antara price value dan enjoyment, dengan hubungan yang lebih kuat pada pengguna dasar. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa keputusan untuk mempertahankan langganan premium lebih dipengaruhi oleh penilaian terhadap fitur tertentu dan faktor personal, sementara keputusan untuk meningkatkan langganan lebih didorong oleh manfaat langsung dari layanan premium. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan strategis bagi penyedia layanan streaming musik untuk meningkatkan konversi dan retensi pengguna

Digitalization has transformed the music industry, with streaming services like Spotify dominating the market and focusing on converting free users to premium subscribers as well as retaining premium users. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing users' decisions to upgrade their subscriptions from basic to premium services and to maintain premium subscriptions. The research employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Multi-Group Analysis using data from an online survey involving 219 Spotify users aged 15–34. The analysis reveals that the variables enjoyment and price value positively influence free users’ intentions to upgrade to premium. On the other hand, ubiquity, social connectivity, and music affinity are the primary factors affecting premium user retention. Interestingly, the variable discovery of new content does not show a significant effect on either decision. Additionally, the study finds that the type of subscription moderates the relationship between price value and enjoyment, with a stronger relationship observed among free users.
Overall, the findings indicate that the decision to maintain a premium subscription is more influenced by evaluations of specific features and personal factors, while the decision to upgrade is primarily driven by the direct benefits of premium services. These insights provide strategic guidance for music streaming service providers to enhance user conversion and retention efforts.
