Abstract

Global warming and extreme climate change due to environmental pollution are influenced by many sectors. Construction industry is the largest producer of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, namely more than 30%. Green Building concept is one of solutions for environmental response. GREENSHIP certification is often chosen not only for property product branding, but also to show a company's global commitment. In 2022, there were 105 buildings in Indonesia which were GREENSHIP certified. GREENSHIP certification is not only used to promote green buildings, but also guarantees improved quality of life. The importance of green behavior expected as part of the concept of preserving the environment, can green buildings also encourage green behavior? Therefore, this research aims to determine the understanding and consumer’s understanding of residents about green labeled. Quantitative method was used to see apartment residents' understanding of Green Building aspects which is applied to the architectural design of GREENSHIP certified apartments. The tactics used in data collection were observation to indicate design and technical aspects (facilities) of the building and then distributing of a Likert scale questionnaire.Data analysis was carried out to describe the level of consumer understanding. Consumer behavior shows positive trends in terms of window usage (with 88%) in EEC aspect and waste segregation within units (with 86%) in BEM aspect. Additionally there is still a lack of compliance with non-smoking apartment policy (with 52%) despite the provision of advisories and facilities in the apartment area. Thus, green behavior of apartment residents/consumers is still at the fourth level, namely the fourth level in the EEC and BEM aspects.
