Abstract

Work–life interference has emerged as a significant concern in Indonesia’s manufacturing sector, especially among the food and beverage industries, where rigorous work conditions may impact employee well-being. This research investigates the impact of Work Interference with Personal Life (WIPL) and Personal Life Interference with Work (PLIW) on employees' turnover intention with large food and beverage manufacturing companies in Surabaya, utilising job satisfaction as a mediating variable. Data were obtained from 150 employees of large food and beverage manufacturing companies in Surabaya, aged between 20 - 59, who have been working for at least 2 years in the company. The data were examined with PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 4. The findings indicate that Work Interference with Personal Life (WIPL) and Personal Life Interference with Work (PLIW) has positive influence towards turnover intention and substantially reduce job satisfaction. Job satisfaction has negative impacts towards turnover intention and partially mediates the relationship between work-life interference and the intention to change jobs. These findings emphasise the importance of maintaining a balance between work and personal life and improving worker satisfaction to reduce turnover intention rates in manufacturing environments.
